Entertainers Assisting Victims of Hurricane Sandy
Giving Back to our Global Community from Lady Gaga to Seinfeld. From Madison Square Garden to Portugal
Somehow the New York/New Jersey/Connecticut area of the United States has sections of it that resemble a war torn area. That war was against Hurricane Sandy. To add insult to injury a follow-up snow storm hit the same area only days later. This area and its people need help. Coming to their assistance are some artists with their fans, with their stories listed below. This is an abridged list.
Marshall Tucker Band Uses Tour Bus For Sandy Aid
The Marshall Tucker Band is using its tour truck to collect donations for victims of Frankenstorm Sandy. The band is in South Carolina now where their trucks were parked outside of the venues the band was playing. The band was there to thank their fans for helping. Doug Gray, lead singer for The Marshall Tucker Band, says the band has received support from people in the northeast for over 40 years and feels their pain “on a personal level.” No scam here as the band is looking to collect coats and blankets. They have encouraged their fans to make cash donations to the American Red Cross.
Madison Square Garden in New York City will be holding a Benefit Concert For Sandy Aid Dec. 12
Madison Square Garden will hold a special concert next month to benefit those affected by Hurricane Sandy. No performers have been announced for the Dec. 12 event, dubbed “12-12-12.” In a release on 11/7, MSG said more details would be available in the coming days. Proceeds will benefit those affected by Sandy in the New York/New Jersey/Connecticut area through the Robin Hood Relief Fund. The event is being produced by those behind the 9/11 benefit “The Concert for New York City,” which featured Paul McCartney, Jay-Z, The Who and Elton John.
Guns N’ Roses and The Hard Rock To Help Sandy Victims
To help the recovery of the victims of Hurricane Sandy, the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas and the Anschutz Entertainment Group have launched a text-to-donate campaign in support of the American Red Cross for the remaining dates in Guns N’ Roses’ Appetite for Democracy residency. These shows will run through Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend. During the shows, The Hard Rock’s video screens will provide information about the campaign and will encourage concert-goers to donate via text message. AEG has pledged to match donations made through the band’s run up to $5,000. Attendees can donate $10 by texting “REDCROSS” to 90999. Each night of the residency, donations can be made when the doors open until the end of the show.
Jerry Seinfeld Reaches Out To Victims Of Sandy
Nothing funny about what has happened to New York. Jerry Seinfeld has added a show in Long Island to his new tour and will donate all proceeds from it and two other performances to Sandy relief. These shows will be 12/19 in Westbury with comedian Colin Quinn (also on the bill). Plus 11/14 in Brooklyn and 12/6 on Staten Island. Seinfeld said, “I grew up on Long Island, and New York City is home. This is a tough time for this area, and we’re just glad to be able to help in the recovery.”
Lady Gaga Donates $1M To Red Cross For Sandy
Lady Gaga is donating $1 million to the Red Cross to aid those affected by super storm Sandy. Gaga was born in New York. She said she “would not be the woman or artist that I am today” if it weren’t for places like the Lower Eastside, Harlem, the Bronx and Brooklyn. She wrote in her blog: “Thank you for helping me build my spirit. I will now help you rebuild yours.” Lady Gaga added that New York is a place full of “relentless ambition.”
José Cid Will Continue to Help Rebuild New York
José Cid, the international pop/rock superstar from Portugal just released a Christmas Song, “It’s Snowing In New York.” José has announced that partial proceeds from ALL his live USA performances through Christmas 2013 will be donated to the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City to assist in the rebuilding of the area. The violin solo in this song was performed by a member of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. José adds, he loves New York and its people and looks forward to touring the USA in 2013.
Support these and other great musicians, comedians and facilities and support the people and places hurt by Hurricane Sandy.
