The below was emailed to our office from an American on vacation in Portugal.
Went to hear [José] Cid last night (8/5/12) at the Feira de Santiago (State Fair) in Setúbal. [He] just wailed with his small (6 man) band for 2 hours. What a spectacle! We knew he was good from the recordings, but in front of all those singing, dancing, ecstatic people he sounded fresh and young. At times he jumped up and down 8 times, waved his scarf and just listened to the people singing his lyrics. We got back to the hotel at 3 AM.

Cid is a lifelong exponent of human rights, repeatedly clashing with Portugal’s Salazar dictatorship. Many of his singles and LP’s were prohibited until the democratic revolution of 1974. This enabled him to realize his creative potential as committed artist and exponent of Portuguese culture. In 1995 he dedicated his CD For Humans Rights to East Timor’s Nobel laureate Ramos Horta. José has worked with Elton John, Julio Inglesias, Men At Work and many other world-class performers.
Cid’s estate in northern Portugal has become a cultural center which records and promotes the works of young composers and performers. In his spare time Cid is an avid competitive equestrian.
José Cid is generally available in both North and South America throughout 2013-2014. Call today +1-540-636-1640.
